Transforming Monotype’s Digital Presence with a Faster, Personalized Website

Monotype, a global leader in type designs and fonts, empowers brands to authentically express their messages through a wide range of fonts, design assets and technology. The brand needed a future-ready website to deliver immersive experiences based on user preferences to enhance overall customer satisfaction. However, its existing legacy content management system (CMS) posed significant challenges – it limited the usage of multimedia-rich content, restricted effective product showcasing and made it difficult to implement personalization. Maintenance was complex due to frequent security updates, requiring extensive tech team involvement, while slow load times further hurt the user experience.

Monotype partnered with Material to develop a dynamic, user-friendly CMS that would overcome limitations by supporting creative needs, delivering personalized experiences and improving site performance and maintenance efficiency.

Our work enabled a 6x improvement in site load speed, reducing it from 12 seconds to under 2 seconds. The Monotype site’s Lighthouse score exceeded 85, with an accessibility score of 85 and SEO above 90—clear indicators of enhanced performance and user experience. We empowered our client’s teams by offering enhanced editorial capabilities like a rich component library that allows the flexibility to display content in various formats tailored to user preferences. This, in turn, enabled faster campaign rollouts. Finally, we enabled development teams to reduce development time by reusing content types, component repositories and functional modules, streamlining onboarding for different brands.
